Choose and apply a build
- Open the shop’s Builds tab and Build Browser for your hero.
- Inspect the build preview and categories. Prefer a plan whose early purchases solve your lane problem and whose later items have a stated purpose.
- Choose Use Selected Build. Make Default saves the build as your default where that option is available; Quick Buy queues purchases rather than buying the whole list immediately.
- Check the displayed active build and your purchase queue. Optional categories are not automatically included when queueing a build.
The game includes Valve-provided beginner and default recommendations. Daily and weekly popularity describe usage, not a controlled win-rate test. An Old warning can mean the build contains removed item references; copying or editing it purges those references. Recheck the resulting list instead of following an outdated purchase sequence blindly.
Adapt to the match
When you cannot stay in range, assess mobility or protection before adding more damage. When sustained gunfire is the part of a trade that lands, compare weapon stats; when an ability does the work, inspect its spirit scaling and imbue target. Keep optional purchases conditional on the enemy problem they solve. A successful change lets you perform the intended action, not merely reach a larger inventory total.
Compare two choices in Sandbox
- Use the same hero, ability upgrades, range and target for both trials. Set the dummy’s bullet resistance, spirit resistance and health regeneration to the same values.
- Use Free Shopping to prepare the first loadout. Reset the DPS Meter and run a repeatable firing or ability sequence.
- Stop dealing damage for three seconds. The combat result remains visible until the next hit; record total damage and the relevant Damage Events.
- Change only the item or imbue choice being compared. Repeat the same sequence and compare damage type, total damage, timing and resources spent.
- If movement matters, use the same recorded bot action for both trials. Retest against a resistance or distance relevant to your actual match.
A result against a stationary dummy does not prove a universal best build. This is a reproducible comparison method, not a claim that this site has run or measured the two trials.
